Corona del Mar History

Until the late 1920s, Corona del Mar was a tiny village, reached from the peninsula by small boat at high tide, or by a muddy dirt road that crossed over the Irvine Ranch. Today, Corona del Mar offers many landmark places to visit, as well as some of the most trendy shops and restaurants.

Crystal Cove State Park:

Also known as El Moro Canyon in northern Laguna Beach.

This trail provides a great opportunity for excellent loop style rides. The park is almost entirely fireroad with a few good singletrack exceptions. The park landscape differs from that of almost any other park in OC. It is mostly open grassland and open hills with minimal trees. Directions: El Morro Canyon is located on Pacific Coast Highway between Laguna Beach and Corona Del Mar. Park in the State Park parking lot and make sure to bring a crisp $5 bill for the parking machine. Parking tickets are no joke to the rangers. * Parking costs: $5.00 (requires exact change for the vending machine) * Facilities: Off of the parking area * Difficulty: Intermediate to Expert * Trail Users: Almost entirely bikers

Beaches
"Big Corona," in Corona del Mar, is the perfect family spot, with mild waves for young swimmers, while "Little Corona", a few blocks south is a favorite tidepool spot. The many small, rugged coves north of Laguna Beach make for great snorkeling and scuba diving, while the grassy parkland along the city's Main Beach is the perfect spot to watch a pro volleyball match or a pick-up game of basketball. Farther south, Salt Creek Beach Park, just below the awesome Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel resort, is one of the best swimming beaches in Orange County.

Sherman Library & Gardens
A 2.2 acre horticultural retreat. The Gardens provide a museum of living plants, displayed amidst a setting of immaculate gardens, patios and conservatories linked together by wide brick walkways, beds blooming with seasonal flowers and bubbling tile fountains. The Library is a specialized research center devoted to the study of the Pacific Southwest.
